To create VPN on your VPS you will have to contact your web hosting provider and ask to enable “NAT” for your VPS. Once you have enabled it for your VPS go to,

Start >> RUN >> Type “services.msc”

Now,  select “Routing and Remote Access” on the services list and then go to properties. Now turn the start up type automatic and apply. “Start this service” will be the option displayed if you have done everything correctly. You will have to select this option as we will use this service to route our traffic.

Now go to,

Start >> Settings >> Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >>

“Routing and Remote Access” will be the shortcut. Click on this.

Configuration panel of Routing and Remote Access will be opened.

Right click on the computer and click this option “Configure and Enable remote and routing access”. Firewall service is stopped and disabled before doing this and you should check this before you try to do this.

Now on the configuration wizard click,

1) Next to proceed

2) In the configuration list select “Custom Configuration”, Press Next

3) Select VPN Access & NAT and Basic Firewall Option, Press Next again

4) Now press Finish to end the wizard

After doing this, PPTP & L2TP VPN access to your firewall should be enabled by this wizard and this should be enabled with private routing capability.

Now , private Traffic to the Public Interface should be routed and this could be done by configuring your VPS. To configure your VPS it is necessary to have any of the two mentioned things below :-

a. Two network interface to route one to another.

OR

b. You can use NAT (Network Address Translation) using the Microsoft Loopbac

adapter.

The second one which is mentioned above is to be worked with as most of the you might not find VPS Hosting with two network interfaces.

Now proceed with the “NAT” configuration with the steps below,

1) go to the Routing and Remote Access panel

2) Expand ComputerName (Local)

3) Expand Ip Routing

4) You should find a option says “NAT/Basic Firewall”

5) Right click on  “NAT/Basic Firewall”

6) To add the network translation use the New interface

“Internal” is the interface that you should add first. This interface is basically for private network access with default settings. Add your main adapter to the NAT list on second attempt and select.

After all this is done select the option “Public Interface connected to this inferface”.

Last option to be selected is “Enable NAT on this interface”.

Address translation should be working on your network now. Your private requests should now be translated and you can use this VPN as your internet gateway.

Allow the Dial In permission after adding a new user from properties if you want to allow the users to use VPN.

User should be able to login using VPN with the Dial-In permission.
